busybusybusybusybusy!

I'm in trouble because I haven't sent out a Headstrong yet. (If you don't know what that is hit My website.) Hopefully I'll have a moment tomorrow, they take me forever to write.

Yesterday after the press stuff (which included a lovely conversation with a journalist named Ben Conley, who was so pleasant to talk to) and a quick call home (finally) I took a CityCat into Brisbane proper for the first time. I wandered around the downtown area and river waterfront. Can you believe I've been here a week and haven't even had time to go downtown? Things were closing as it was pretty late, so I just wandered around for a bit, and walked down a mall area that reminded me of Las Ramblas in Barcelona in the evening. Then I went home and turned in early, as I've been coming down with a cold.

This morning I woke up just miserable, but I fixed myself a nice breakfast (brekky) of pesto potatoes, mango-orange juice, toast with Boursin cheese on it, and fresh ginger tea (ginger chopped up and thrown in the blue teapot with some hot water, mm mmm.) Somehow I made it to the Queensland University of Technology, where I played for about an hour in their Campus Club. After a whisky and about 45 minutes of getting used to being upright, I started to feel a bit better. I'm afraid I may have let fly a few scowls before I did though... luckily the students were polite and I even met a couple of nice people.

I've been needing to pick up a few things, so on the way back to the Powerhouse Bella gave me a lift to Rocking Horse records, which has quite a nice selection and a wonderful staff. I even found the record I've been needing, and I was impressed at the number of American tracks available in the drum and bass section - that buyer knows what he's doing. Nice store.

I had another nap, recharged the digital camera, and had some strange fizzy vitamins that made me feel much better. Then it was off to Radio ZZZ headquarters, where I spent a delightful half hour or so on the Queer Radio/Dykes on Mics show. We had a wonderful time, they were just so nice, and I felt so much better. I'll be going back to "Triple Zed" on Friday, where I'll have another chat and give away prizes for their RadioThon, and then later that night I'll be playing a drum and bass set on Tommy's famous Original Drum breakbeat show.

I even made it back to the Powerhouse in time to catch tonight's great Trombone event, featuring all sorts of wonderful sounds and resonances through the Turbine Hall, and original works by Stuart Dempster, Vincent Plush, Raffaele Marcellino, Keith Humble, and Robert Davidson. It was very moving.

Now I've simply GOT to get out of here and get a good night's rest - tomorrow's going to be ridiculous! Pictures in the morning, another Catheral Band concert and workshop, and then we're going out to the Australian DMC Championships after the madness.
